Vehicle graphics Sri Lanka: themes, variations and symbols

Bagged these pictures on the Dambulla-Kurunegala and Kandy-Colombo roads. The designs on the backs of these buses are clearly template based with a limited set of variations. The mystery here is the choice of symbolism – the space shuttle, ships, cartoon characters, swans, the Fleur-de-lis (on the bus below), the Dharmacakra, etc.. Any thoughts/rationales (if any) behind the choice of symbols would paint an interesting sociological portrait.
