New king of Sigirya: unofficial portrait
Here he is – cool (despite the heat), calm and majestic. Ruffled only by the breeze. Totally obvious to the crowds and unencumbered by security. I was able to snap this photo on the top most level of his palace on Sigirya mountain after a sweaty palmed climb in the killer heat. Behind me came a gaggle of swquacking schools kids hat wrecked whatever peace and quiet his majesty was seeking. There was no furrowed brow or snarl of rage. Just a nonchalant squint into the glare, a few mediative evaluations of the situation, then a return to the afternoon snooze. The guides would take care of everything.
Clearly he is a more sharing occupant of the palace than the first King.

who knows, maybe his ancestors lived besides ours on top of Sigiriya once…
