Colombo’s street races and the state of change
Just over 3.5 years ago I wrote a post about Illegal street racing in Colombo (punch those words into Google, click the “I’m feeling lucky” button and see what you get). The post did have a few “issues” which are hammered out in the interesting stream of comments it generated. Now street racing has become a form of civic entertainment. Anointed with blessing from on high.
Such is the nature of change. Sri Lanka isn’t used to such an accelerated pace of it. Yet change it self is the only contant. Its the pace of change that, for the lack of better words – changes. I suppose things will eventually settle down when we adjust. But not for long. Seat belts of the mental kind should always stay fastened. But not too tightly to prevent us from enjoying the ride.
Swerving back from munching metaphors, it would be interesting to hear the back story of how all this automotive changes came about. The truth, if it ever comes out would be too bizarre to believe. I wonder if the legit driving scene is made up of a different crowd – on a wise, better connected veterans of the less formal days of yore. What ever the case, the comment box awaits your insider stories.
Hope the weekend was fun and safe – and keeps staying so.
Now off you go to make sure the kolla has polished the Lamborghini properly….
