Political photoshop/gimp without computers

Tagging and commenting has been around the poster front of Sri Lankan politics for a long time. The sample below (photographed in Galle fort a while ago) is part of that tradition. I think the point of the “redesign” is to make a hostile reference about the effeminate qualities of the opposition leader – and perhaps allude to claims that he is gay. Factors which are supposed to be negative qualities in Sri Lankan culture.

Non digital photoshop

The poster btw, is an advertisement for a rally by the United National Party to be held in Galle on the 10th of July 2007. Its leader Ranil Wickremasinghe (know as “Ranil” in the big red letters is the gent featured in the poster.

Indi.ca has a post on digital Sri Lankan photoshop.

Postscript: Title updated with apologies to GIMP using Open Source folks out there. Thanks to Achcharu for the reminder 🙂
