NASA sign Colombo Sri Lanka

NASA Karaoke sign, Colombo Sri Lanka
I doubt if this establishment has anything to do with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the U.S. Karaoke is clearly NOT a part of NASA’s core activities. Even if you consider studies NASA does regarding the psychological effects of space travel. Karaokeing to Mars and beyond doesn’t sound like a sane idea.

That should take care of any dangers of mistaken identity. NASA is located across Police Park on Havlock road.

I haven’t been inside and don’t intend to try because I’m allergic to Karaoke. If anyone reading this sampled this establishment’s cuisine and ambiance, the comment box is below awaits your impressions.

  1. As far as I have heard, it’s a bit of a ‘joint’ with more than it’s fair share of ‘hostesses’. Of course this is based on hearsay, so I may be wrong.

  2. Funny story (at least to me and former colleagues of mine): a few years back, I was working as a feature writer for a local lifestyle/travel magazine. One particular day, the marketing guys requested that we write a review of a Chinese restaurant/karaoke place in the Havelock Road area. My colleague, a lady in her 40s, was assigned the task, but she had to opt out in the 11th hour because the team was asked to come in during dinner time, which would be too late for her. My editor then asked me.

Being the naive idiot that I was, I walked into the restaurant with no preconceived notions. The owner brought us the “house special” (which, incidentally, tasted awful) and then invited me to the karaoke area. The photographer and the marketing guy were already inside when I walked in. Lo and behold there were girls (wearing clothes that left little to the imagination) dancing, offering lap dances and everything else. The owner offered one of the ladies to me: “It’s on the house”, he said.

I walked out. Marketing guy and photographer were compelled to stay in because the establishment was a client.

I wrote the review, but refused to put my byline. You can imagine the reaction of my colleague, the aforementioned lady, when I related my experience.

Long story short: most of those karaoke places are brothels in disguise 🙂

And, yes, that NASA one is awesome.

  4. Theena That is hilarious! Heard many rumours about the brothels in disguise thing. Supposedly operated by people from SE Asia.

Many apologies btw for your comments getting stuck in the spam queue 😦 Akismet is shooting down too many legit comments of late.

Just a correction from my previous comment: it was a Korean restaurant, not Chinese.

  6. hey , do you know NASA also houses , or atleaset adjoining lot has the VFS , Very F.kin Service that provides a go between for Visas’ to Italy,Germany,France etc.. VFS is the place to go if you want to get a good doze of reality ,in terms of where we as Sri Lankans stand , when it comes to oversease travel and acceptance as a nationality/country!
if you by any chance apply for a visa to one of the Europeian ,schengan states that VFS caters for .. man you get trated like a peice of sh.., you end up doing musicul chairs, introrragated on stuff like true identity of your paraents ,privious foreign travel and even all aspects of your social life too!
but the funny thing is , NASA shares not only the building with VFS but also couple of Directors too!

  7. tinker 😀 that is insane! But fits nicely into Sri Lanka’s ironies. I wonder if the place is a organised crime operation…
