Computer desktop screen shot festival

What does your computer desktop say about you – as a computer user and a blogger? The answer is interestingly arguable. The safest answer is that it depends on the blogger/human. Contribute to the discussion by posting a screen shot of your computer’s desktop – with some part of your blogs’s admin panel in the picture – on your blog.

Feel free to hide any personal info or mess. If you got any productivity applications or cool desktop toys this is a good time to show it off.

Send me a link to your post with the snapshot in the comment box below. If you send in the link before 9th July ends I’ll immortalise you by listing you on a static page on my blog.

For those unfamiliar with the rituals of making a screen-shot here are some helpful links. All the hard work done by about.com

Lots of Screen Capture Tools & Tips at about.com

Linux/Unix people should now how to do this without relying on me 😉

  1. For Linuxers, KDE users use Ksnapshot which is part of the KDE distribution itself. Gnomies use, “import -window root desktop.png” from a terminal.
I am waiting to see the stuff!

  2. 😀 another unexpected burst of positive response 🙂

kalusudda: same here – as soon as I get down to it 🙂 meanwhile how about your desktop – does the Blackberry have one?

Azrael: Cool desktop there! Is that a duel monitor set up as well?

themissingsandwich: Put a temporary desk top picture 🙂 if its worth the hassle that is. Have to “clean up” mine for the shot as well.

lady divine: You make windows seem very slick and hip 🙂 What’s that Fire Fox theme you have?

  3. My windows is bare minimum as it came. 17″ of notebook real state. But you will notice 4 Firefox instances, 2 IE and two Open Office applications running. So the beauty is only wall paper deep. You also see Derana TV running. The lower most icon on the left allows me to have more than 1000 digital channels of TV from all over the world, including 6 channels from SL.
My blackberry is always on GPS mode as tracking needs. Currently we are digitizing all the trees(by location, scientific name [Galicissa should be happy]) in SF. So the image shows how it looks when it is not in GPS mode. It is photo from the web but it looks exactly as mine.
My Linux desktop even more bare! It is running CentOS 5 and has Fedora as a Virtual Machine. In addition to these, I run two servers at home and two PCs and a MAC mini.
    But they are all similar.

Dili: Your comment actually got me to sit down and get it posted. Although it was in a galloping hurry. Needed the kick in the behind though 😉 or I’d have kept putting it off till the weekend.

  5. My desktops just plain black. Nothing else. No pictures. No fancy eye candy except for my firefox theme.
Don’t think its worth putting a picture of, I’m afraid. 🙂

  6. gutterflower: Same with me 🙂 I just have a lot of geeky techno apps floating about. Anyway show off your firefox theme – you are very much in the running for the minimalist prize of the festival.

    Theena: Thank you 🙂

St.Fallen: Thank you 🙂 Very goth!
