Oldest post on indi.ca (dated 18 August 2003) went up 6 years ago today. Its an oddly low key post for the rather prominent existence that blog now leads. The anniversary confirms its operator Indrajit Samarajiva as one of the grand old codgers of Sri Lankan blogging.
Not that such titles matter. But I have always found it interesting to read the first posts of major blogs during their bloganiversaries. Specially if they were written before the spot light turned on.
Yes yes I know this might seem a bit of ingratiating. Particularly since there’s a “diverse” range of opinion about the guy, his blog and what the two of them put out.
However there’s no denying that he’s done more than his fair share to create an audience for Sri Lankan blogging. At his own expense too. Least we can do is mention a “thank you” now and then.
On a personal note, when I was fumbling about the world of blogging in my early days it was the conversations (or verbal brawls) raging on indi.ca that kept me interested. It led to finding kottu.org and other moments of personal blog evolution.
On the topic of blog evolutions, there’s a lot of discussion about printing blog posts from Kottu.org via a for profit newspaper. While I have no problem about the general concept of publicising blogs via print, I do have major worries about HOW it is done. I will outline these in a longer post/comment. When I find the time.
