Just downloaded my blog as an xml file tot he desk top. it weighs in at almost 6MB. Piddling amount compared to quire a few other blogs. It used to be a monthly ritual but lately, I have slacked off. Which is a bad – though I’m not expecting wordpress.com to go blink.
We use a “free” service with the almost automatic expectation that our data is safe in the warm confines of a data centre somewhere secure than our own computers. However keeping backups of your own data is a good habit. You still have access to your data if your service goes off-line/ gets interrupted or cut off. It makes you less complacent about the illusion of cloud computing. Whatever happens out there you have access to your files.
