Chutney music

Chutney is regarded as an accompaniment to something bigger. Something never consumed by itself. Chutney music (link to wikipedia summery that tells it better than I could) on the other hand, is a stand alone dish by itself. Whether you’ll like it is another matter. The video in this post is a sample on a tooth pick plucked from the youtube Chutney music buffet. Tell me what you think. Neither I nor the Voices in My Head have decided yet.

Irrespective of musical tastes and opinions I think its a wonderful outcome of that great human ability to make a culture at a personal level. Its easy to rhapsodise on an on. But this is a blog written under time pressure. Best to sit back and soak in the tunes. ya marn.

  1. Interesting genre… Reminds me a lot of Caribbean music (with the trumpets and all) mixed with Indian rap! 😀

  2. I know this girl from Guyana who listens to it all the time. It’s like an East Indian mix of Soca.

The Caribbean is multi-ethnic and has people of Indian decent as well as African decent.

Listening to Chutney and mowing down on a good chicken rotti is awesome!

  3. Chavie: I think you summed up the sound quite efficiently 🙂

Hilal: hmm never heard of Soca before (overlooked the link on Wikipedia). Thank you for the recommendation 😀

arkitektonic & aufidius: you are welcome 😀

T: I was just going to sniff around for examples of Soca – you did the work for me. Thank you 🙂
